Man in critical condition after shooting incident at Memphis Jewish school
A man is in critical condition after a shooting incident at a Jewish school in Memphis, Tennessee. According to the police, the man fired shots at the Margolin Hebrew Academy on Monday afternoon. Fortunately, no one at the school was injured.
The suspect attempted to enter the school but was stopped by double doors. He then opened fire before fleeing the scene. Police caught up with the suspect a short distance away, and after he got out of a vehicle with a gun, they shot him. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
The motive behind the attempted shooting has not been disclosed by the authorities. However, hate crimes, particularly those targeting Jewish people, have been on the rise.
The White House has recently released a plan to combat increased antisemitism, as hate crimes overall have increased by 11% from 2020 to 2021, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Anti-Defamation League also reported a 36% increase in antisemitic incidents across the US last year, which is the highest annual total since they started tracking such incidents in 1979.
